Configuring a server port

After you’ve installed the database server, you should configure a server port to allow all Field Manager Commercial users in your organization to connect to it.

To configure the port:

  1. Click Start>All Programs>Microsoft SQL Server 2008>Configuration Tools>SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. In the left pane, double-click SQL Server Network Configuration to expand it.
  3. Click Protocols for FM. The TCP/IP protocol has the status Enabled.
  4. Right click TCP/IP and select Properties. The TCP/IP Properties dialogue box appears.
  5. Click the IP Addresses tab to display the IP addresses that were available when the SQL Server was installed. Make the following changes in the IPAll section:
TCP Dynamic Ports: Delete anything in this field.
TCP Port: Enter a four-digit number (write it down, as you need it when you first log in). This example uses 2775.
You don’t need to change the other IP address fields (IP1, IP2, etc.).
  6. The dialogue box should look like this:
  7. Click Apply and then OK to close the TCP/IP Properties dialogue box.
  8. In the left pane, click SQL Server Services.
  9. In the right pane, right-click SQL Server (FM) and then click Restart. After the server has restarted, you can close the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  10. You can now try to connect to your database server using Field Manager Commercial.
